| Specificity | This antibody is specific for ADAM-12, (A Disintegrin And Metalloproteinase 12). It recognises epitopes in the aminoterminal domain and therefore recognises both ADAM-12S and ADAM-12L. |
| Application | Western Blot: 1/1000; Under reducing conditions this antibody detects both latent and active forms of ADAM-12. |
| Background | Two forms of human ADAM-12 have been described, ADAM-12S and ADAM-12L (short and long forms respectively). ADAM-12L is a large, membrane-bound protein. The short form is a soluble, alternatively spliced form lacking the transmembrane and cytoplasmic domains. ADAM-12 is expressed mostly in muscle and bone, but can be found in placenta, osteoblasts and a number of tumour cell lines. It is reported to be involved in myoblast fusion. |
